"I'll fight for better, safer schools for rancho cordova" - Jen laret
ABOUT JEN
My husband Adam and I are the parents of 4 children which range from 8 to 18. I attended elementary school in Rosemont and graduated from Folsom High School in 1997. I attended both Brigham Young University and Sacramento State University. I have a bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State University in Criminal Justice.

I am currently the Vice President of A4 Promotions & Incentives. We are a 3rd generation small business located in Rancho Cordova.
I currently serve as the Vice President of the Rancho Cordova Track Club. I am also a board member on the following boards: Rancho Cordova Police Activities League, Sacramento African American Family History Seminar, and Rancho Cordova Student Athlete Coalition.
I am also the JustServe coordinator for the Rancho Cordova area. This entails connecting non-profits with volunteers. I have worked extensively within the Rancho Cordova community the last few years, specifically with our refugee community and helping to support their needs.
Adam and I were recently awarded the Volunteer of the Year Award by the City of Rancho Cordova for our work on updating and refurbishing the weight room at Cordova High School.
My work with the Rancho Cordova Student Athlete Coalition has included covering the green fees for the Cordova High girl’s golf team, cleaning out the bone yard and installing new mesh privacy fencing. We are currently working on several new projects that will support our students and athletes and Cordova High School.
Why I'm Running
I have 4 children, 3 of which currently attend schools in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District.
I have seen declining test scores and deteriorating facilities. I have been working over the last two years to make sure that attention is being given to Cordova High School and understand that there are also issues with facilities at our middle and elementary schools. The Rancho Cordova student body is a very diverse community, and I would love to see those cultures celebrated and supported within our school district.
I am passionate about our students and want to ensure that they have all of the resources available to make them a success.

THE ISSUES
Our schools in Rancho Cordova are in a declining state.
Many of our schools are in need of major updating. I have even had a teacher say that the parents of her students had to purchase her a working chair. It is difficult for our Rancho Cordova students to see their peers in Folsom have access to brand new schools while their schools have not been updated in decades.
Our teachers feel under appreciated and under paid.
We have teachers leaving our district for neighboring districts for better pay and better benefits. We need to be negotiating the best possible contracts for our teachers to be able to retain them for our students
In speaking with our teachers and administrators we have class sizes that are far too large.
In speaking with an administrator recently he stated that we could massively improve our test scores and learning environments if we could even reduce class size in the k-3 grades. I am committed to getting those class sizes down starting with those grades.
In the past education has been a one size fits all approach.
We have a diverse student population and therefore need a diverse offering of academics. I would love to see more robust cte program as well as steam or stem offerings at our schools.
